Kwan Hoong Ng

Prof. Ng is a Professor at the Department of Biomedical Imaging, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received his M.Sc. (Medical Physics) from the University of Aberdeen and Ph.D. (Medical Physics) from the University of Malaya (1995). He is certified by the American Board of Medical Physics (since 1999). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP), and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He has held visiting professorship at Jinan University, China; Chang Gung University, Taiwan; Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; University of Newcastle and University of Sydney, Australia; University of Sao Paolo, Brazil. Dr. Ng established the Master of Medical Physics Programme at the University of Malaya in 1998. He was responsible for securing the accreditation from the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), UK in 2002. Prof. Ng has authored/ coauthored over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 80 conference proceedings papers, 25 book chapters, co-edited six books. He has served in the editorial board and advisory board of more than 12 journals. Prof. Ng has contributed extensively to the IOMP for over two decades having served as member in several committees. In 2016 he received the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) Award.

Prof. Ng has been serving as an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert/ consultant. He was a member of the International Advisory Committee on EMF of the World Health Organization. He has also served as a consulting expert for the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). He is the Founding President of the South East Asian Federation of Medical Physics (SEAFOMP) (2000-2006) and has been the Emeritus President since 2014. In 2014 he founded the ASEAN College of Medical Physics (ACOMP) that conducts education and training workshops for medical physicists in the region. He is the Past President of the Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP) (2010-2012). In 2013, Prof Ng was honoured as one of the top 50 medical physicists in the world by the IOMP. In June 2018, he received the prestigious IOMP Marie Skłodowska Curie Award at the WC2018, Prague. He is an awardee of the Asian Scientist 100 (2019 edition).
